Rand Ismaeel

Dr. Rand Ismaeel is a Royal Academy of Engineering Research Fellow developing the next generation of photonic sensors for monitoring marine environments. Her work bridges advanced optical fibre technologies with silicon photonics to enable highly sensitive and compact tools for environmental sensing. Recently, her research has focused on hollow-core fibres, harnessing their unique light–matter interactions to push the boundaries of ocean monitoring. Rand’s work sits at the intersection of photonics and oceanography, driving innovation in environmental sensing and contributing to global efforts to better understand and protect the marine ecosystem.
