Prof. Ioannis Kypraios (D.Phil., MSc, BEng(Hons), PGCert(HE), FHEA, MIET, MIEEE) is an Affiliate Professor in AI and MLwith the Khoury College of Computer Sciences at Northeastern University. He has also previously held the role of the Head of Department of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at Northeastern University (London campus). Additionally, he is a Visiting Professor(Assoc. Lecturer) in the Department of Computing, Worcester Business School, of the University of Worcester. In March 2026, he became a Visiting Professor (Online Tutor) for the joint MA in Artificial Intelligence (Digital Transformation) between CEG and the University of Southampton. He has over 25 years of professional experience, including approx. 8 years in industry and over 17 years in academia, in AI, ML and data science with applications in the areas of optical computing in biomedical modelling, healthcare informatics for public health and digital healthcare technologies for therapeutics and diagnostics.
Prof. Kypraios is the author of over 70 published papers (incl. two Patents in the UK and the US) in peer-reviewed international conferences, journals, book chapters and technical reports. He is a world-renowned expert in applied AI cross-discipline areas, and his research has attracted (direct) funding worth approx £1.8 million the past 5 years and has previously led and delivered projects in AI and ML worth over £5.9 million. He has previously been a reviewer for FP7, Horizon, BCS, IEEE GOLD and an external advisor for private charities and NHS Foundation Trusts in the Midlands and North of England. In June 2024, he was appointed as an Innovation Radar Expert in Artificial Intelligence providing research strategic directions for the European Innovation Council (EIC) of the European Commission (EC). He has held CTO, CSO, and CAIO advisory board roles for several SMEs and startups in Technology and Digital Innovation areas.
