Ioannis Kypraios (D.Phil.(Sussex), Ph.D.(Patras), MSc, BEng(Hons), PGCert(HE), FHEA, MIET, MIEEE) is a Professor in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) affiliated with the Khoury College of Computer Sciences at Northeastern University. Prof. Kypraios has previously held senior roles at the University of University of Sussex, University of Gent (Belgium), University of Oxford and at De Montfort University amongst others. He has also led research teams at Continental ADAS SV and at FotoNation (Xperi formerly known as TESSERA Group). Prof. Kypraios is the Founder and Managing Director (CEO) of Dianoesis Tech Limited. He is currently an advisory board member (CTO/CSO) for several startups in applied AI areas. Prof. Kypraios has over 24 years of professional experience, including approx. 7 years in industry and over 17 years in academia, working in AI/ML and data science with applications in the areas of optical computing (photonics) in biomedical modelling, healthcare informatics for public health and digital healthcare technologies for therapeutics and diagnostics. He is the author of over 70 published papers (incl. two Patents in the UK and the US) in peer-reviewed international conferences, journals, book chapters and technical reports. Prof. Kypraios is a world-renowned expert in applied AI cross-discipline areas, and his research has attracted funding worth approx. £1.5 million the past 5 years and has previously led and delivered projects in AI and ML worth over £5.8 million. Prof. Kypraios has previously been a reviewer for FP7, Horizon, BCS and an external advisor for private charities and NHS Foundation Trusts in the Midlands and North of England. In June 2024 was appointed as an Innovation Radar Expert in AI providing research strategic directions for the European Innovation Council (EIC) of the European Commission (EC) and in June 2025 he was appointed an EIC Transition expert reviewer, too.
