Fred Gillard

My name is Fred, and I am an engineer working as part of the chip verification team at the Lumentum Caswell Indium Phosphide fab. I joined the company in September 2024 having graduated with a masters in physics from Cambridge that year. My work involves working with chip designers to develop InP chips, predominantly for telecoms. I design, build, and run optoelectronic experiments to measure various properties of the chips, providing critical information needed for chip design. As an R&D focused team, we prioritize flexibility over volume, allowing us to quickly adapt to changing priorities and requirements. The telecoms industry is an exciting industry to be a part of at the moment, and though the work at times brings challenges, it is an extremely interesting and dynamic environment. As an experimentalist at heart, I feel privileged to get to work hands on with such cutting edge devices and to be contributing to the future of information.
