Colin Mitchell
Senior Research Fellow,
University of Southampton (ORC)
Currently researching MIR laser and detector integration for medical and environmental monitoring. Colin has a broad experience from working in silicon with Hynix (Hyundai Semi Europe), compound semiconductors for his PhD (QCL/QWIP) and OIPT at Manchester (QDL, materials for high speed devices) leading to projects with ESA, MoD, e2v, Bosch and others. Moving to silicon photonics at Southampton in 2012, he has worked across NIR/MIR including first demonstrations in rare earth doped waveguide lasers, the development of GOS platform, SPADs and stand-off detection applications with QinetiQ/NRL. He has used his compound semiconductor background and silicon photonics experience to lead on integration form c-band to MIR, incorporation other hybrid integration such as the world leading modulators at ORC.
