Andrew Turner is Managing Director of Malvern Optical and has nearly 30 years of experience in the research, development, integration, test and evaluation of advanced photonic and electro-optic systems. After obtaining a Master's degree in Physics from the University of Birmingham, Andrew built his career working across a broad range of optical technologies, including electro-optic imaging systems, laser systems, thermal imaging, optical fibre technologies and novel photonic materials. His work has spanned capabilities ranging from single-photon detection through to multi-kilowatt laser systems, operating across wavelengths from the ultraviolet to the far infrared. Throughout his career, Andrew has provided technical leadership and programme coordination for complex research and development activities, with particular expertise in the assessment and integration of photonic technologies at subsystem, system and system-of-systems levels. He has led extensive laboratory, field-based and operational test and evaluation programmes, helping organisations understand the performance, limitations and deployment challenges of photonic systems in demanding real-world environments. Today, Andrew combines strategic leadership with deep technical expertise, drawing on decades of experience bridging the gap between innovative photonic technologies and practical, dependable capability. He has co-authored 11 technical papers and remains actively engaged in supporting the development and adoption of next-generation photonic systems.
