Dr. Carter is the CEO of OpenLight Photonics and a semiconductor and optical communications industry veteran with more than 35 years of experience. He has played a key role in scaling leading optical systems, components, and module businesses, and has been involved in multiple successful turnarounds, acquisitions, and exits. Prior to joining OpenLight, Dr. Carter served as Chief Commercial Officer at Foxconn Optical Interconnects and was a key executive in Oclaro’s transformation and its $1.85B acquisition by Lumentum. Earlier in his career, he led Cisco’s Transceiver Module Group, including the acquisition of silicon photonics start-up Lightwire, and held senior roles at Avago, Agilent, and Hewlett-Packard. Dr. Carter holds a B.Sc. (Hons) in Applied Physics from Portsmouth University and a Ph.D. from the University of Wales, Cardiff.
