RobQuant is developing a solid-state quantum magnetometer that measures the magnetic fields produced by neural activity, the signal targeted by magnetoencephalography (MEG). Today, high-sensitivity brain monitoring is confined to specialist facilities: SQUID-MEG requires cryogenic cooling and OPM-MEG requires heated vapour cells, and both need shielded rooms. RobQuant's patent-pending photonic enhancement architecture for nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centres in diamond is designed to deliver this sensitivity at room temperature, on a chip, without external magnetic shielding, and manufacturable via standard semiconductor fabrication. This opens up brain monitoring in settings existing technologies cannot reach, from cognitive monitoring in aerospace, defence and motorsport through to wearable brain-scanning systems for clinical use.
